Frequently Asked Questions

What is PBT?

PB Theatricals Youth Theatre is a not-for-profit all-inclusive theatre group for young performers aged between 10 and 30. It was formed in 2009 with the aim to specialise in producing quality Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in a concentrated rehearsal period. We are based in the High Peak.

PB Theatricals Youth Theatre group is run by a committee of committed parents, volunteers, performers and other interested parties who tirelessly fundraise, organise and donate their time, skills and resources to ensure that each year fabulous shows are put on. Many of those involved in the organisational side of things are young people and performers themselves!

Who are Gilbert & Sullivan?

Librettist W.S. Gilbert wrote the words and composer Sir Arthur Sullivan wrote the score for their fourteen operas, in a collaboration that lasted 25 years.

Their quarter of a century long partnership began in 1871, when the pair were brought together by theatre manager Richard D’Oyly Carte. Gilbert and Sullivan are perhaps best known for their comic operas: The MikadoH.M.S PinaforeThe Pirates of Penzance and Iolanthe.

Who runs PBT?

See out Meet the Team page to find out more about us!

Do I have to audition?

No! We only ask that those wanting a principal part audition. If you would like to join the chorus, you do not need to audition. Prior to the auditions, you will be sent a registration pack which details the different roles available.

How much does it cost?

The participation fee for early registration is £50 and for registrations after 1st July, it is £60. This goes towards the hire of venues, staff, insurance and equipment needed to put on our fantastic shows! This includes costumes for the performances, however we may ask for some basics to be provided e.g. black trousers / shoes etc. A list will be provided nearer the time.

I would like my child to take part, however, I am concerned about the cost.

We want as many people to take part in PBT as possible! We encourage anybody who may be encounter difficulty paying the registration fee to please get in touch at pbtyouththeatre@gmail.com, and we will seek to assist you.

Can I volunteer behind the scenes?
